PG Diploma in
Radio & Television
Production
|
This programme introduces the student to the theory and practice of
film making with specialisation in one of the trade for television.
The emphasis is on the craft of film production, scripting,
shooting, editing, sound recording and computer graphics. The course
also attempts to equip the student with analytical skill to read
films of class, gender, technology, economics and aesthetics to
create multiple levels of meaning. TV programme making is, often
called Making films for Television. Because the process of work is
same for Film (celluloid) as well as Televison. The whole lot of
people who work for making film is a team and this is broadly
divided into two categories. The team (crew) members who work with
their brain, is considered as above the line crew-members (line is
drawn along the neck of a human) and those who work with their
skills (hands) are considered as below the line crew members. So
persons like, Film director, Music director, Art director, Dance
director, Fight director, News producer, etc. are all above the line
crew members, they all work with their education, knowledge,
experience and maturity. In other hand persons like Cameramen,
Lightmen, Editors, Sound recordists, etc. are all below the line
crew-members. All of them work under instructions from Director. The
skill of handling camera or skill of using editing machine etc. is
more important. In TV production houses or satellite channels, jobs
are broadly classified into four major areas No. 1, Film Director,
who initiates the idea, Develops the story, and actually gives shape
to whole production. So he is like an Architect of a programme. No.
2, TV Journalist, he is just like director but works on news based
productions and carries great knowledge of politics and current
affairs. No. 3, Camera Person who is mainly involved in shooting,
who has strong visual sense and good technical knowledge about his
tools (camera) and No. 4, Video Editor, who is mainly involved in
post production, who knows his tools (editing machines etc.) and
technically very sound.
